The beneficiary of the foreign companies Zaira Invest&Trade Inc and Saga Handels GmbH, Andrei Zakharov, was arrested in absentia on suspicion of involvement in the case of former Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov, who was convicted of accepting a bribe of 1,185 billion rubles.

It is clarified that the case file does not contain accurate information about Zakharov's involvement in the case.

"The submitted materials do not contain sufficient data confirming Zakharov's involvement in the alleged act," the TASS news agency quotes the investigation materials.

Zakharov is currently on the international wanted list.

The former deputy minister was detained on April 23, 2024. Ivanov is charged with accepting a bribe in the amount of 1,185 billion rubles. According to investigators, he entered into a criminal conspiracy with the heads of contractors working at the facilities of the Ministry of Defense, and concluded contracts with them in exchange for personal remuneration.

On July 1, Ivanov was sentenced to 13 years in a penal colony. In addition, Ivanov was sentenced to a fine of 100 million rubles, deprived of the state award and the title of Honored Builder of the Russian Federation. The second person involved in the case, Ivanov's ex-subordinate Anton Filatov, was sentenced by the court to 12.5 years in a penal colony and a fine of 25 million rubles.
