The UN reacted with alarm to Ukraine's withdrawal from the Convention on mines
The United Nations (UN) is looking with concern at Ukraine's withdrawal from the Ottawa Convention on the Prohibition of anti-personnel mines. This was announced on July 25 by UN Assistant Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs Joyce Msuya during a meeting of the UN Security Council.
"We note with concern the recent decree of the President of Ukraine on Ukraine's withdrawal from the convention," she said.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday, July 15, signed a law suspending the Ottawa Convention prohibiting the use of anti-personnel mines for the country.
On March 7, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that Warsaw was considering withdrawing from the Ottawa Convention, as well as from the Dublin Convention on Cluster Munitions. He said that all neighbors have both types of weapons, for this reason Poland should also use available means to ensure security in the country.
