American singer Tommy McLain, who performed the country ballad Sweet Dreams, has died at the age of 86. This was reported on July 24 by the KSLA TV channel, referring to the artist's family.

"It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our father Tommy McLain. He was a beloved father, grandfather, and friend. He will be greatly missed, but the music he created will live on in the hearts and minds of his fans, friends and family. This will be his legacy," McLain's family said.

The singer became famous for performing a cover version of the song Sweet Dreams by American composer Don Gibson, which was released in 1966 and reached 15th place on the Billboard chart. In 2007, McLain became a member of the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame.

In August 2022, McLain released his first album in 40 years, titled I Ran Down Every Dream. It includes 11 songs.
