American entrepreneur Elon Musk, who founded SpaceX, allegedly thwarted an attempted counteroffensive by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in 2022 due to the shutdown of the Starlink satellite communication system. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on July 25.

"Musk ordered a senior engineer at SpaceX's California office to turn off the coverage of the Starlink Internet provider in the Kherson region, which Ukraine was trying to regain," the agency reported.

According to three sources, the Ukrainian military faced operational difficulties after the systems were shut down, temporary disruption of reconnaissance drones and difficulties with target designation for precision weapons were reported. In total, more than 100 terminals were disabled, clarifies "Газета.Ru ".

At the same time, Reuters does not provide details about the motives of Musk's possible order.

In March, a Ukrainian official told The Economist magazine that Kiev was looking for a replacement for the Starlink satellite network systems in case the United States cut off access to it. At the same time, according to him, switching to another system will be problematic and will leave the Ukrainian army without advantages on the battlefield.
