Most Russians continue to receive work messages even during their holidays. In order not to flinch from notifications on the beach, a quarter delete the messenger from their phone. Although this does not add to the peace of mind — one in three is afraid of conflict with the head because of silence. Such data was received by the Kontur communications service.Tolk" as a result of the research. Izvestia got acquainted with the results on July 28.

According to the study, 68% of respondents receive work messages in instant messengers during their holidays.: 18% — regularly, 50% — periodically. Only 9% say that their colleagues respect their right to rest and do not bother them at all. Others face the fact that work issues "catch up" with them outside the office — on the train, on the beach, on a walk with the children.

"Most people try to react delicately to such messages. 46% say they are on vacation and will be able to respond later. 26% are still partially included in the correspondence if the issue is urgent. Only 8% always respond immediately. The rest either get annoyed but don't respond, or ignore the chats until they return," the study clarified.

For many, working on vacation is not just an inconvenience, but an emotional strain. 19% admitted that they could not completely relax because of the messages at work, sometimes they even had to change their plans. Half of the respondents say that it all depends on the content: if emergency tasks or changes come up, it causes stress. Only a third of the respondents (31%) are confident that they can switch off and messages do not interfere with their rest.

Digital activity on vacation often affects relationships with loved ones. 15% had conflicts with their relatives: correspondence at work interfered with their plans and spoiled their mood. 47% were dissatisfied, but in general, everyone was sympathetic to the situation. Only 38% said that such situations did not occur at all.

Not everyone expresses open dissatisfaction with messages in work chats on vacation. Only 4% wrote about it directly, 20% discussed it personally with colleagues or management. At the same time, 28% would like to complain, but did not dare, and almost half (48%) preferred to simply remain silent.

Russians try to disconnect from business communication in different ways. Most often — in a mild form: 48% restricted notifications, 19% completely deleted or disabled messengers. Only 2% decided to take drastic measures and temporarily switched to push-button phones. Nevertheless, one in three (31%) does not disconnect from work chats even on vacation.

Sometimes attempts to distance themselves can lead to tension. 9% of the respondents faced direct dissatisfaction from the management, another 25% felt that the authorities did not like it, although it was not openly mentioned. 33% have avoided conflict so far, but fear that it is possible. Only a third of the survey participants are confident that management understands that a person really wants to relax and completely disconnects from work correspondence.

"Vacation is not a privilege, but a necessary measure for recovery. But with constant digital accessibility, boundaries are blurring, especially for those who work remotely. If an employee cannot switch off even during a rest period, this will lead to burnout. One of the steps in this direction is the separation of work and personal communications, including through corporate messengers," emphasizes Pavel Skripnichenko, head of innovation at the Tolk product group in Kontur.

On June 4, Roskachestvo expert, head of the Beyond Taylor Unified Concept Department, Daria Afanasyeva, in an interview with Izvestia, talked about ways to make communication with superiors more open. Acknowledging one's own mistakes and shortcomings will help an employee build a trusting relationship with management.
