Childish lies are not always a sign of bad character, but rather a signal of fears or a lack of problem—solving skills. Ekaterina Markelova, co-owner of the Discovery network of bilingual kindergartens and schools, told Izvestia on July 26.

"Children's lies often frighten adults. Today, a child fantasizes about a monster around the corner, and a couple of years later he assures that he has done his homework, although the notebook is empty. But that's not always a bad sign. Most often, deception speaks about fears and needs that the child does not yet know how to cope with," the specialist explained.

According to her, at first children just fantasize, but by the age of 4-5 they begin to consciously hide the truth in order to avoid punishment or get what they want. Motives become more complicated with age.: This may be a fear of being judged, a desire to look better in the eyes of peers, or even an attempt to protect someone.

"It's important for parents to stay calm. Screaming and accusations will only make the child shut down. It is better to take a break if emotions are strong, and return to the conversation later, in a calm atmosphere," the expert advises.

The key, in her opinion, is to make the child understand that he can tell the truth without fear.

"When parents show that they are ready to listen and help, rather than punish, the child gradually learns to be honest. It is important to explain the consequences of actions and look for a way out together, rather than putting labels like "liar" — this will only worsen the problem," the specialist noted.

If lying becomes frequent and is accompanied by anxiety, the expert recommends contacting a specialist.

"Sometimes a child lies because of deep feelings — shame, loneliness or fear. A psychologist will help to understand the reasons and restore trust in the family," concluded Markelova.

Kaspersky Lab analysts told Izvestia on July 3 that more than half of Russians (52%) use gadgets as a manipulation that allows them to control children's behavior. They take away the phones of minors for bad behavior. At the same time, 31% of respondents, on the contrary, encourage their children with gadgets. In addition, 18% of parents began to quarrel with their children more often because of prohibitions. Experts reported that they doubt the effectiveness of appropriate manipulation, as such behavior can provoke conflicts in the family.
