In the Ongudai district of the Altai Republic, the bodies of a dead man and woman were found, who were swept away by the current into the Katun River in early July, the press service of the Main Directorate (GU) of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the region said on July 25.
"A man's body was found in the Katun River. Rescuers lifted him out of the water and handed him over to the investigating authorities. The body of a 44-year—old woman was found at the mouth of the Choba River," the department's Telegram channel says.
The woman's identity has already been established. According to preliminary data, a couple of tourists came to relax from the regional city of Biysk. On July 10, they were swept away by a strong current in the area where the Bolshoy Yaloman and Katun rivers merge.
On July 20, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that a group of seven tourists had disappeared in Karelia. According to the agency, they went kayaking from the ridge of the islands of Kuzova in Karelia to the Solovetsky Island of the Arkhangelsk region. Three days later, it was reported that rescuers had found the body of one of the missing tourists.
