Italian gymnast Lorenzo Bonicelli was put into a medically induced coma after an unsuccessful fall while performing on the rings at the Summer Universiade in Germany. This was announced on July 25 by Steve Butcher, Technical coordinator of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG).
Earlier in the day, Essential Sports reported that an Italian gymnast performed a triple back somersault on the rings during the men's team competition. As a result, he landed on his neck.
"Lorenzo is in a medically induced coma after surgery on Wednesday evening," he wrote on Facebook (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
According to him, it will take 10 days or even more to clarify the athlete's condition.
Earlier, on July 17, Austrian extreme athlete Felix Baumgartner died in a paragliding accident near the Adriatic coast in Italy. It was clarified that the paraglider crashed into a wooden structure by the pool and crashed, its fragment also injured the neck of a hotel employee.
