A resident of the Moscow region, who collected explosives to blow up railway tracks, was sentenced to 18 years in prison in a terrorism case. The decision was made by the 2nd Western District Military Court, the press service of the Moscow Region Prosecutor's Office reported on July 25.
It was established that from January to March 2024, the defendant Mikhail Gromov joined a terrorist organization. Its participants gave him instructions on how to make explosives and devices for blowing up railway tracks and other facilities. The defendant bought some of the components himself, and removed the other from the bookmark caches on the instructions of the curator.
"The illegal activity of the attacker was stopped by security officials on March 25, 2024, and the prohibited substances were withdrawn from illicit trafficking," the agency's Telegram channel says.
Gromov was found guilty under Part 2 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code ("Participation in the activities of a terrorist organization"), Article 205.3 of the Criminal Code ("Undergoing training in order to carry out terrorist activities"), Part 1 of Article 30, Part 3 of Article 223.1 of the Criminal Code ("Preparation for the illegal manufacture of explosives and explosive devices, organized 222.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Illegal possession of explosives and explosive devices by an organized group") and Part 1 of Article 30, paragraph "a" of Part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Preparation for a terrorist act by an organized group").
The defendant will spend the first three years of his 18 years in prison, and the next 15 years in a high—security penal colony with one year and six months in prison. He also has to pay a fine of 800 thousand rubles.
On July 23, employees of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation in the Krasnodar Territory stopped the activities of an attacker who planned to set fire to the dormitory of an oil refinery in the Kuban. The man made incendiary mixtures on the instructions of the curator in order to set fire to the dormitory of one of the oil refining facilities. The court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention.
