A Soyuz rocket was launched at the Vostochny cosmodrome, which will deliver into orbit a scientific and educational satellite equipped with the first Russian plasma engine manufactured in Moscow. This was announced by Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry.

The Deputy Mayor recalled that the Moscow authorities provide comprehensive support to the aerospace industry. "Today, this industry in the city is represented by more than 40 enterprises, scientific and technical centers, laboratories and research institutes, employing over 30,000 people," Liksutov said.

"The capital produces a wide range of high-tech aerospace products, from ultralight cables to launch vehicles and components for spacecraft. The range of manufactured products is constantly expanding," stressed Anatoly Garbuzov, Minister of the Moscow Government and Head of the Investment and Industrial Policy Department.

Cubesat 239Alferov, an ultra—small scientific and educational satellite sent into orbit, is designed to study pulsed gamma-ray sources of extragalactic, galactic, solar and terrestrial origin. The data obtained will allow us to learn more about the processes occurring on the surface of stars and in deep space.

The satellite is equipped with the first domestic plasma engine created by the capital's STAR company (Satellite Technologies and Astrodevelopment). It will be used to practice cubesat orbital maneuvers. The Moscow-based development is characterized by high safety, compactness, low energy consumption, and scaling potential for the entire range of small and ultra-small spacecraft.
