- Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy Moiseev noted the importance of the Prince Pozharsky cruiser for the country.
Alexander Moiseev, Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, called the launch of the nuclear-powered submarine Prince Pozharsky an important event for Russia. He noted that the Knyaz Pozharsky will become the basis of the country's strategic naval nuclear forces.
"Ships of this class have had 30-40 years of service. I am convinced that the nuclear-powered submarine Knyaz Pozharsky will have the same glorious history. The modern generation of Borey—class submarines is the nuclear forces of our state," the commander—in-chief of the Russian Navy told reporters.
A series of fourth-generation missile carriers of projects 955 "Borey" and 955A "Borey-A" should become the basis of Russia's naval strategic nuclear forces until the middle of the 21st century. They carry up to 16 R-30 Bulava intercontinental ballistic solid-fuel missiles on board. With a full salvo, Borey-A can destroy several dozen targets.
The Prince Pozharsky is the only fourth—generation missile carrier in the world, military expert, captain of the first rank Vasily Dandykin told Izvestia. The United States has only third-generation boats, and their innovations will only be laid in the future.
"It is a feat of both designers and employees of Sevmash to create such submarines," the expert added.
