Real estate expert Vladislav Anisimov spoke on Thursday, July 24, about a common method of fraud, when a fake landlord takes a "deposit" from a potential tenant as a reservation, but in the end simply disappears.
Anisimov noted that in most cases the deposit is 5-10 thousand rubles, but it happens that fraudsters can announce the amount of 50-100 thousand rubles.
"It is also quite common for a realtor to rent an apartment to a tenant without any consent from the owner. In this case, he can even show all the necessary documents, but later the owner finds out that tenants live in the apartment, which he does not even know about. In the end, tenants are obliged to move out immediately, as they live in the apartment illegally," the expert explained in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .
In order not to fall for the fraudsters' trick, Anisimov recommended that when leaving to view the apartment, clarify whether the owner will be at the signing of the contract or the meeting will be held online. He also advised to check the documents for the apartment and the owner's passport.
