Lithuanian leader Nauseda demanded that Prime Minister Palutskas justify himself or resign.

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda has demanded that Prime Minister Gintautas Palutskas clarify the situation surrounding the scandals involving him within two weeks or consider resigning from office. This was announced on July 24 by Presidential adviser Frederikas Jansonas.

"The President asked the Prime Minister in the next two weeks to either provide a reasoned answer to the questions raised by the public, or thoroughly consider his further options for fulfilling the duties of prime minister," LRT quoted him as saying.

The reason for the ultimatum, as the channel explains, was the investigation into the company Dankora, founded by Paluckas' niece. The company received a preferential loan from the ILTE development Bank and soon began purchasing from Garnis, of which the prime minister himself is a shareholder. The financial police have launched pre-trial proceedings, and the ethics commission is also dealing with the situation.

Other inspections were also reported, including Paluckas' acquisition of real estate in Vilnius. The politician himself insists that he has not violated the law, and at the moment is not involved in the management of companies.

Palutskas called the incident "an attack by political opponents" and said that he had not yet made a decision to resign. According to him, quoted by LRT, any action can affect the ruling coalition and the work of the government. The Prime minister stressed that he takes into account the opinion of the party and partners in the ruling coalition.

Nauseda signed a decree on May 27 to revoke the state award of former presidential candidate Eduardas Vaitkus after his statements about the Lithuanian presidential election last May. The politician questioned their legitimacy, calling Nauseda's victory "illegal." In addition, Vaitkus stated that Lithuania is "moving towards the destruction of the Lithuanian people and statehood."
