The test pilot named the alleged causes of the An-24 disaster in the Amur region
The AN-24 plane crash in the Amur region could have been affected by the weather and mountainous terrain, as well as any transient process or malfunction on board. This was announced to Izvestia on July 24 by Honored Test pilot of the USSR Viktor Zabolotsky.
"Presumably, firstly, the weather conditions there are not good now. It is raining heavily, although there is no wind, but the precipitation is quite serious. And the weather is changing dramatically there. <...> You can find out if there was enough fuel. If something happened, why was the pilot silent? Most likely, it was some kind of fleeting behavior, a fleeting process," Zabolotsky said.
According to the expert, if the aircraft has an engine failure, then this is not a critical moment for the AN-24, it will be able to fly to the airfield on one engine. In addition, there is another additional motor installed there.
The pilot noted that it is too early to build versions, anything could have affected the disaster, including the difficult mountainous terrain in that area, the AN-24 is not very good for low-altitude flights. The plane itself, if it was in good condition, should not have caused the accident, the expert believes.
"The AN-24 is an old aircraft, but I have said many times that there are no old planes: there are serviceable or defective ones. This is an outdated design, but very reliable. I've flown it quite well," Zabolotsky emphasized.
The AN-24 passenger plane crashed earlier that day 15 km from Tynda in the Amur region. The aircraft, following the Khabarovsk – Blagoveshchensk –Tynda route, stopped communicating. Later, its burning fuselage was found on the ground.
According to preliminary data, all those on board the passenger plane were killed. Presumably, there were 49 people on board — 38 adults, five children and six crew members. A criminal case has been opened into the loss of communication with the crashed plane. A technical malfunction and a human factor are considered as a version of the incident.
