Metropolitan investigators have opened the first criminal case under the article on droppery. This was announced on Thursday, July 24, by the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation Irina Volk in her Telegram channel.

"Investigators of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Moscow have opened the first criminal case on the grounds of a crime under part three of Article 187 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, on the so—called droppery - the transfer of one's bank account to fraudsters," the publication clarifies.

According to Volk, we are talking about citizens transferring their bank accounts to fraudsters. According to the investigation, a 52-year-old resident of Moscow decided to pay off her debts and found a part-time job on the Internet. On the instructions of the attackers, the woman opened an individual entrepreneur's account in the bank, to which the funds obtained by criminal means were credited.

The investigation revealed that more than 1 million rubles had been transferred to the account. The woman kept in constant contact with her handlers in messengers.

Law enforcement officers detained the suspect and searched her apartment. Volk clarified that the police are now identifying other accomplices in the crime.

On July 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law that criminalizes droppers with up to six years in prison. It was clarified that changes are being made to art. 187 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Illegal turnover of funds of payments"). A penalty of up to six years in prison with a possible fine of 100,000 to 500,000 rubles is provided for the purchase or transfer of a bank card by persons who are not customers of the bank. In addition, they are fined from 300 thousand to 1 million rubles and forced labor for up to four years.
