In the Trans-Baikal Territory, a foreigner was detained at the state border who tried to smuggle 11 gold bars. He hid the gold in a toolbox.

According to the ChitaMedia news agency, with reference to the FSB press service for the region, the value of the precious metal amounted to 7 million rubles. A criminal case has been opened into the incident.

Earlier it was reported that in the first half of 2025, the smuggling of precious and semi-precious stones, gold, precious metals and jewelry made from them was stopped for 753.4 million rubles. The customs authorities have initiated 63 criminal cases on the facts of their illegal movement, and 36 for the same period last year.
