- Japan denied Trump's words about the purchase of additional weapons from the United States
Japan will purchase weapons from the United States according to its previously approved plans. This was announced on July 24 by the Secretary General of the Government of the country, Yoshimasa Hayashi.
"We are aware of the statement by the White House and the President [of the United States Donald] Trump. We explained to the American side our country's point of view on future arms purchases, which are based on already approved plans to provide weapons," The Asahi Shimbun newspaper quoted him as saying.
A day earlier, Trump announced on his page on the Truth Social network that Japan had agreed to purchase an additional large batch of American weapons as part of a trade deal.
"They (Japan. They also agreed to buy billions of dollars worth of goods and military equipment and transfer 90% of the $550 billion to us, and even more," the US president said.
Hayashi also stressed that the weapons purchased by Japan will be determined "primarily based on what is necessary to strengthen the country's defense capability."
On July 22, Trump announced that the United States had concluded "perhaps the largest" trade deal with Japan, according to which Tokyo would invest $550 billion in Washington's economy and pay a 15% duty to the United States. The United States will also supply cars, rice and other goods to Japan.
