There has been an armed clash on the disputed border between Cambodia and Thailand. This was reported on July 23 by the Reuters news agency, citing the Cambodian Ministry of Defense and the military of both sides.

"Armed clashes between Thailand and Cambodia broke out early in the morning," the publication says.

At the same time, according to the agency, the military of both sides accused each other of firing the first shots.

According to a statement from the Thai military, Cambodia opened fire in the area near the Ta Moan Thom temple, located in the disputed territory. The Thai side claims that the Cambodian military used a drone (UAV) for reconnaissance purposes, and then allegedly intended to send troops to the area with heavy weapons.

A Cambodian Defense Ministry spokesman told Reuters that the kingdom's Armed Forces responded in self-defense.

Earlier, on July 10, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that China was ready to mediate in resolving the border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia. He also expressed hope that the two Southeast Asian countries would work to resolve the issue through friendly dialogue.
