North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un watched artillery firing training competitions between units of large formations of the Korean People's Army on the eve of the celebration of the anniversary of the end of the Korean War (1950-1953). This was reported on July 24 by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
"Amid the enthusiasm for intensive training to further strengthen the combat power of the elite Revolutionary Army, shooting competitions between artillery divisions of the Great United Forces of the Korean People's Army were held on July 23. The General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and Chairman of the State Administration of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Kim Jong-un, observed the artillery firing," the agency noted.
According to KCNA, the head of the DPRK was accompanied by the Deputy Chairman of the Central Military Council of the Workers' Party of Korea and the secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea Park Jong-chun and the country's Minister of National Defense, Noh Kwang-chol. Kim Jong-un was received on the spot by the Chief of the General Staff of the Korean People's Army, Lee Yong-gil.
According to the agency, the leader of the DPRK heard a report on preparations for the shooting competition and made a speech himself. In it, he stressed the importance of holding a training competition.
Earlier, on July 8, Kim Jong-un visited the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun in Pyongyang in honor of the 31st anniversary of the death of the founder of the state, Kim Il-sung. It is reported that a basket of flowers presented by the head of state was laid at the statues of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il. The Central Committee of the Party, the State Council of the DPRK, the Cabinet of Ministers and other departments also handed over their flowers.
