A criminal case has been opened in Poland against Grzegorz Brown, a member of the European Parliament, who extinguished Hanukkah candles with a fire extinguisher in 2023. This was reported on July 23 by TVN24, citing sources.

"The Warsaw Regional Prosecutor's Office has sent an indictment against MEP Grzegorz Brown to the court. We are talking, among other things, about extinguishing Hanukkah candles in the Sejm in 2023," the TV channel reported, citing the press secretary of the Warsaw Prosecutor's Office, Peter Anthony Skiba.

According to the TV channel, a number of incidents will be considered in the case, including the prohibition of lectures on the Holocaust, the incident with the discarded Christmas tree in the Krakow court and the attack on the director of the National Institute of Cardiology.

Earlier, on July 10, it was reported that the Polish prosecutor's office began checking the words of Grzegorz Brown, a member of the European Parliament, who in an interview with Wnet radio denied the fact of the extermination of people in the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz. It is clarified that Brown wants to be prosecuted under Article 55 of the law "On the Institute of National Memory", which provides for punishment in the form of a fine or imprisonment for up to three years.
