One third of insurers sell ineffective policies
One third of the insurance market participants had an extremely low payout ratio for their products. This is stated in a study by the National Rating Agency (NRA), Izvestia has it. They correlated the amount of payments for each of the players with the fees for the first three months of 2025 for all policies with the exception of voluntary life insurance (where the contribution system is more complicated).
40 market participants (27 insurers and 13 mutual insurance companies) out of 131 had this indicator below 10%. These players collected 22.8 billion rubles, but paid only 0.6 billion. Moreover, 16 participants did not make any payments during this period. This indicator indicates a low customer value of their products, the NRA noted. Such a small share of payments in relation to premiums really shows that market participants are selling products that are ineffective for the customer, the Popular Front agreed.
Low payments can be explained by the immaturity of the insurance portfolio or the peculiarities of the business model, the All-Russian Union of Insurers said. This is especially true for mutual insurance companies and companies with a small number of contracts.
In general, the volume of payments to fees in the market was 50%. Moreover, it has increased compared to previous years (in 2024 - 42%).
