Germany and France are seeking from the European Union (EU) to impose "harsh measures" against the United States if Washington does not compromise on trade duties. This was reported on July 23 by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper, citing European officials and diplomats.

"Germany and France are joining forces with their EU counterparts to support retaliatory measures against US duties if Washington does not compromise, as the bloc's position is tightening ahead of the August 1 deadline for concluding a trade agreement," the publication says.
