- Scammers stole 35 million rubles from a pensioner under the pretext of leaking his data
Fraudsters stole almost 35 million rubles from a pensioner from Moscow under the pretext of leaking his personal data. This was announced by the Moscow Prosecutor's office on July 23.
It is specified that the 77-year-old man allegedly received a call from the deputy director general of the organization in which he previously worked and reported a data leak. Further, a representative of law enforcement agencies contacted the victim and stated that now fraudsters can steal money, therefore it is necessary to transfer them to a single secure account.
So, according to the instructions of the swindler, the pensioner bought a new phone and told him about his accounts and the amount of available funds.
"Under the guidance of the caller, the man withdrew money from his accounts, took savings in rubles and foreign currency stored at home, and handed them over 'by code word' to couriers who allegedly had to deposit cash into a secure account," the Telegram channel says.
According to the press service of the department, the amount of stolen funds exceeded 34.9 million rubles. At the moment, the prosecutor's office is identifying those involved in the crime.
On July 21, a pensioner, having trusted scammers, lost her apartment and more than 20 million rubles as a result of a multi-pass fraudulent scheme. It was clarified that the woman had withdrawn 1 million rubles from the account and transferred them to unknown persons in order to protect herself from an allegedly fraudulent attack. Jewelry worth 850 thousand rubles was also stolen from her and they organized the sale of her apartment for 18.4 million rubles.
