Transgender people (LGBT people, a movement banned in the Russian Federation and recognized as extremist) are no longer allowed to compete in the United States national team at the Olympic and Paralympic Games in the women's categories. The relevant ban was adopted by the US Olympic Committee (USOPC), ABC News reported on July 23.

In the updated version of the athlete Safety policy document on the USOPC website, the word "transgender" is not used directly anywhere. It is noted that the revised rules emphasize how important it is to ensure fair and safe competition conditions for women.

The USOPC also reminded the federations of various sports of the need to comply with the decree signed in February by US President Donald Trump banning the participation of men who have changed their gender in women's sports competitions in their country.

On July 9, the US Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against the California Department of Education over the admission of transgender people to participate in women's school competitions in the state.

On January 20, Trump said that the official US policy is to recognize only two genders — male and female.
