The doctor named the causes of itching in the ears
Itching in the ears can signal not only harmless causes, but also serious diseases. Stanislav Ionov, Professor of the Department of Therapy at the Medical Faculty of the State University of Education, told Izvestia on July 23 when this symptom requires urgent treatment by a specialist.
"If itching is accompanied by pain, discharge, or hearing loss, it may indicate an inflammatory process, fungal infection, or even otitis media. Itching can also be caused by an insect ingestion or an allergic reaction due to its bite," he warned.
According to the expert, itching in children should be of particular concern.
"Toddlers often put small objects in their ears, which can lead to injury and inflammation," the specialist noted.
The doctor stressed that self-medication in such cases is unacceptable. Incorrectly selected drops or ointments can make the situation worse. In case of persistent itching, you should immediately go to the doctor.
As a preventive measure, the specialist advised to avoid using cotton swabs to clean the ears and treat colds in a timely manner.
"Don't forget about ear hygiene, but never clean your ears with a stick. It can injure the eardrum or mucous membrane, and this increases the likelihood of inflammatory or fungal diseases of the ear," concluded Ionov.
Earlier, on June 30, Ekaterina Demyanovskaya, Candidate of medical Sciences, expert doctor at the Hemotest laboratory, told how to prepare for a hike, provide first aid if necessary, and who should not go into the forest alone at all. According to her, it is worth taking a first-aid kit with you for a trip to nature. It should contain painkillers, bandages, antiseptics and insect bites, as you can get injured, tick bite or face other dangers in the forest.
