A resident of the Trans-Baikal Territory is accused of smuggling timber worth over 1 billion rubles. This was reported on the website of the Prosecutor General's Office on July 22.

According to the investigation, from 2017 to 2021, the accused, as part of a criminal community, issued fictitious documents for the purchase of timber and used front companies for the illegal export of lumber.

"The total volume of illegally exported timber amounted to 107 thousand cubic meters worth more than 1 billion rubles," the ministry said.

The criminal case under Part 2 of Article 210 of the Criminal Code ("Participation in a criminal community") and Part 3 of Article 226.1 of the Criminal Code ("Smuggling of strategically important resources committed by an organized group") was sent to the Chernovsky District Court of Chita.

On June 9, six residents of Dalnegorsk and Vladivostok were accused of illegally cutting down forests for a total of 120 million rubles. In addition, according to the regional prosecutor's office, two of the defendants set fire to two Toyota Harrier and Toyota Porte cars belonging to a police officer who stopped illegal logging in 2019.
