Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishibi has denied reports that he allegedly plans to resign from his post at the end of next month, The Japan Times newspaper reported on July 23.

According to Japanese media, the fate of the politician remained allegedly unclear after the outcome of his negotiations with the United States.

"Nothing that has been reported is true," Ishiba said a few hours after Japan and the United States reached a trade agreement.

The Mainichi newspaper wrote earlier that day that the politician would decide to resign by the end of August, based on the results of negotiations with the United States. It was clarified that Isiba is facing great pressure from the Liberal Democratic Party (DLP), which he heads, demanding his resignation after losing the upper house elections.

On July 22, President of the United States Donald Trump announced that the United States had concluded "perhaps the largest" trade deal with Japan, according to which Tokyo would invest $550 billion in Washington's economy and pay a 15% duty to the United States.
