The Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia received statements against Pashinyan.
The Zartonk party has submitted two applications to the Armenian Prosecutor General's Office against Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. This was reported by Sputnik Armenia on July 22.
Thus, according to the party, "there are violations of articles of the Constitution" in Pashinyan's actions. The first appeal included statements by the Prime Minister on his Facebook page (owned by Meta, a company recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation). There, he openly instructed the judicial authorities to make arrests, carry out criminal prosecution, and detain clergymen, including Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, as well as businessmen.
"The European Commission <...> has adopted Pashin's policy <...>. He signed and published a statement that could have a direct impact on the decisions taken by the judicial authorities, which already confirm the fact of the crime, as well as the guilt of those who are still under investigation," the agency quoted the statement.
The second document indicates that the politician is exerting long-term pressure on the Armenian Apostolic Church (AAC) by interfering in its internal affairs.
Earlier, on July 20, Pashinyan called for preparations to expel Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II (Ktrij Nersisyan) from his residence in Etchmiadzin. Pashinyan accused Nersisyan of violating the marriage covenant.
Prior to that, on June 27, the Archbishop of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Mikael Ajapakhyan, was detained. The Investigative Committee of Armenia has opened a criminal case against him on calls to overthrow the government in the country. In turn, Armenian lawyer Varazdat Harutyunyan stated that the criminal case against the archbishop on calls to seize power is absurd from a legal point of view.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, in turn, expressed concern about attacks on the church in Armenia. He stressed that Moscow is interested in ending the attacks on the Armenian Apostolic Church (AAC) and in resolving the situation as soon as possible based on full respect for the rights of believers.
