The Chinese Ministry of State Security has notified citizens about possible surveillance of them through souvenirs from other countries. This was reported by Xinhua news agency on July 22.
"Foreign espionage and intelligence agencies can enthusiastically equip inconspicuous small objects <...> with location detection and wiretapping functions in real time," the publication says.
Among such products, according to the agency: backpack pendants, key chains and other accessories. And officials, secret service personnel, and scientists may be particularly susceptible to such attacks.
On the same day, American Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that the United States would try to negotiate with China on extending the period of duty relief. For example, the United States and China will hold a meeting in Stockholm on July 28 and 29, where the parties will work on a possible extension of the deal.
At the same time, on July 21, Washington threatened to impose duties of 100% on China for the purchase of Russian oil. According to the minister, the next round of US-Chinese talks may include discussions on Beijing's purchases of Russian and Iranian oil.
