Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba will decide on his resignation by the end of August, based on the results of negotiations with the United States. This was reported by The Mainichi newspaper on Wednesday, July 23.

It is clarified that Isiba is currently facing great pressure from the Liberal Democratic Party (DLP), which he heads, demanding his resignation after losing the upper house elections.

At the same time, according to the newspaper, the prime minister believes that the reached trade agreement between Washington and Tokyo is one of the reasons for his "continued tenure."

The day before, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced that the United States had concluded "perhaps the largest" trade deal with Japan, according to which Tokyo would invest $550 billion in Washington's economy and pay a 15% duty to the United States.

Earlier, on July 21, Japan's ruling coalition, which includes the LDP and the Komeito party, lost its majority in the elections to the upper house of parliament.
