On July 22, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Republic of Mozambique, Maria Manuela dos Santos Lucas, in Moscow. This was announced on July 23 by the Russian diplomatic department in the Telegram channel.

"During the meeting, issues of further strengthening the traditionally friendly Russian-Mozambican ties were discussed in detail," the Foreign Ministry said.

The diplomats confirmed the commitment of both countries to deepen the political dialogue between Moscow and Maputo, and also discussed issues of coordinating joint actions to solve global and regional problems within the framework of the United Nations (UN).

"The tasks of strengthening trade, economic and investment cooperation, improving the legal framework, implementing promising joint projects in various fields, and increasing cooperation in the humanitarian and other fields were thoroughly considered," the statement said.

The sides also exchanged views on key regional and global issues on the agenda. During the conversation, the focus was on the issues of reforming the UN Security Council, the situation around Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East, the Foreign Ministry stressed.

On July 22, Lavrov announced Russia's readiness to consider Mozambique's issues in the field of counterterrorism. According to him, similar threats persist in Mozambique and other African states. He also noted that Russia will help create conditions for conflict resolution in Africa.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on June 23 that Russia's cooperation with African countries could be mutually beneficial. According to him, after the collapse of the USSR, the Russian Federation lost its position on the continent, but this situation began to change.
