- An Italian journalist pointed to a possible reason for the large-scale protests in Ukraine.
Forces wishing to take the place of the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, may be behind the organization of mass protests in Ukraine. Italian journalist Vincenzo Lorusso told Izvestia about this on July 23.
"This is a protest against Zelensky's office, but I think it is very likely that behind this protest, which is certainly spontaneous on the one hand, there is someone's support - either someone inside the Ukrainian government or, as in the case of the mayor of Kiev, outside it. And this support is aimed at directing a protest against Zelensky, since the goal is to take his place," he said.
The journalist noted that currently, many Ukrainians see Kirill Budanov, head of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine (included in the list of terrorists and extremists in the Russian Federation), as a possible successor to Zelensky. According to Lorusso, the protest could not have developed so strongly in the absence of support from the government, the army or the mayor of Kiev, especially in the capital.
At the same time, he stressed that the Western media bypassed the coverage of the protest.
"Of course, for obvious reasons, I have to follow the Italian media, and there is absolutely no mention of this. Neither in the local press, nor in La Repubblica, nor in Corriere della Sera, is there absolutely no mention of these protests taking place in Kiev," Lorusso said.
A day earlier, mass protests began in the country against the head's law on limiting the powers of departments. One of the posters at the rally in the city said that Zelensky's law was a "capitulation to corruption."
On July 21, Bloomberg reported that Kiev's allies were concerned about the raids on the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU). According to the newspaper, the bureau was founded with funds from foreign allies ten years ago to investigate corruption among high-ranking officials.
