Karasin assessed the impact of Trump's ultimatum on negotiations with Ukraine
The Russian Federation will take into account the ultimatum of US President Donald Trump on the eve of the third round of negotiations with Ukraine, however, it will proceed from national interests. This was stated to Izvestia by the head of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, Grigory Karasin.
"We take into account what Trump says, but I would refrain from using the phrase "take into account." We understand, we know, we take into account [Trump's ultimatum]. We proceed primarily from our national interests and the interests of maintaining the stability of international life," he said.
Earlier, press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that it makes no sense to "count on breakthroughs from the category of miracles" in the upcoming round of negotiations. He also did not give a specific date for the meeting of the delegations. Moscow hopes that the talks will take place this week, Peskov said.
On July 14, Donald Trump threatened to impose import duties of approximately 100% on Russia and its trading partners if no agreement on a settlement of the Ukrainian conflict was reached within 50 days.
