The United States is preparing its nuclear infrastructure for a new round of the Cold War. This was reported on July 22 by the British magazine The Economist.

"Nuclear war issues are returning to a new era of rivalry between major powers. The latest treaty on the limitation of American and Russian nuclear weapons, START-3, expires in February, and no replacement is expected. <...> In turn, America is modernizing all parts of its "triad" of land—based, sea-based and air-based nuclear weapons," the magazine noted.

The Economist spoke about the changes that have begun to occur in the United States arms sector. Thus, the Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) will be replaced by Sentinel, the cost of which has increased to $141 billion. Production of B-2 and B-21 bombers, submarines with Ohio and Columbia class ballistic missiles will also increase.

The magazine emphasized that 400 ICBM missiles are deployed in 450 silos.

Earlier on July 2, American political scientist Malek Dudakov pointed to U.S. concerns about falling behind China in the arms race. According to the expert, Washington is currently involved in a large number of conflicts around the world.
