The special Envoy of the President of the United States for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, is heading to the Gaza Strip. This was announced on Tuesday, July 22, by the head of the press service of the US Department of State, Tammy Bruce, with reference to Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

"During my conversation with the Secretary of State, he noted that Special Envoy Witkoff is now heading to the region, to the Gaza region," she said during a briefing.

On the same day, a diplomatic source in Israel told Izvestia that the Israeli authorities were discussing the possibility of transferring control of Gaza to local structures not affiliated with the Palestinian Hamas movement. He noted that, according to the Israeli side, about 20 hostages remain alive in the enclave, the release of 10 of them is currently being discussed.

Earlier, on July 17, it was reported that Qatar, Egypt and the United States submitted to Israel and Hamas an updated proposal to resolve the situation in the Gaza Strip.
