Due to restrictions at the airports of Moscow and St. Petersburg, 517 flights were canceled, the situation affected 75 thousand passengers. This was announced on July 22 by the Russian Ministry of Transport.
"Between July 19 and 08:00 Moscow time on July 22, a total of 517 flights were canceled at airports in the Moscow region, as well as at Pulkovo, 169 aircraft were sent to alternate airfields. The situation affected 75,000 passengers," the agency's official website says.
It is specified that during this period, passengers issued more than 16 thousand forced ticket refunds, they were given more than 109 thousand vouchers for drinks and more than 58 thousand for meals. In addition, 16,000 people were accommodated in hotels.
The Ministry also stressed that the airlines are taking the necessary measures to improve the conditions of passengers' stay during flight delays, recreation areas and catering workshops with meal points are organized for them.
The day before, the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation reported that, together with the Federal Air Transport Agency, airlines and airports, they are working to ensure that planes start flying as soon as possible in accordance with the regular flight schedule.
