VKontakte conducted a study on the role of fandoms in the lives of young people

Fandoms are becoming not only a form of self—expression, but also a springboard for a career - 76% of authors consider this area promising for professional growth. Every third young content creator earns money from creativity by creating fan art, slicing, mash-up and other video content. Izvestia got acquainted with the relevant study of the VKontakte social network on July 23.

It is noted that the creation of fandom content has become a familiar way of self-expression. Thus, 68% of respondents consider this to be the main form of self-realization, and half of the respondents admitted that creativity helps them cope with their experiences in real life. The authors of the fandom communities noted that this is not just a hobby, but a way to express themselves.

According to the study, 67% of authors create fan content for the sake of positive comments and a sense of belonging to the community, and 73% of respondents admitted that it is the uniqueness of the content that influences the decision to subscribe to the author or support him with donations via VK Donut.

The study indicates that one in three respondents noted that they belong to four or more fandoms at once. At the same time, 58% of young users are ready to share their hobbies only with their loved ones, and a third of the respondents are not ready to share even with them — for fear of condemnation.

Fandoms are becoming a comfortable space: 29% noted a sense of security, 33% — support and understanding, 37% — the opportunity to speak out, and more than half of the respondents reported that they feel more confident when interacting with them.
