New car imports to Russia fell by 63%

According to the results of the first half of 2025, the import of new passenger cars to Russia decreased by 63% compared to the same period last year. In six months, 149.3 thousand new cars were imported into the country against 408.5 thousand a year earlier, the analytical agency Autostat reported on July 22.

The majority of new passenger cars (77%) were imported to Russia from China. The second place in this indicator is occupied by Kyrgyzstan, whose share in the total volume was 8%. Belarus and South Korea are next in the ranking (4.7% and 4.4%, respectively), Kazakhstan closes the top five (2.2%). Each of the remaining countries accounted for less than 1%.

In the brand rating, Changan was the leader in new car imports with a share of 15.8%, followed by Geely (10%), Haval (6.9%), Tank (6.5%) and Toyota (5%). The most popular models in the import structure were Changan UNI-S/CS55 Plus, Geely Monjaro, Changan CS35 Plus, Haval M6 and Tank 300.

On the eve of the auto expert and ex-president of the association "Russian Automobile Dealers" (ROAD) Oleg Moseev said that the size of the passenger car fleet in Russia reached 46.56 million units in the first half of 2025. Compared to December 2024, the number of registered cars in the country increased by 1.28%, the analyst noted.
