Russia is ready to consider all appeals from Mozambique regarding the republic's defense capability in the field of counterterrorism. This was announced on July 22 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
"We have confirmed our readiness to consider all appeals from our Mozambican friends on issues related to the need to strengthen their defense capabilities and strengthen their anti—terrorist capabilities," he said during a press conference following talks with Mozambican Foreign Minister Maria Lukas.
According to Lavrov, similar threats persist in Mozambique and other African states. He also noted that Russia will help create conditions for conflict resolution in Africa.
In addition, Lavrov announced his readiness to visit Mozambique at the invitation of the country's foreign minister. In turn, the head of state Daniel Shapu plans to come to Russia on a visit, the minister added.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on June 23 that Russia's cooperation with African countries could be mutually beneficial. According to him, after the collapse of the USSR, the Russian Federation lost its position on the continent, but this situation began to change.
