The expert spoke about the importance of not sharing toys for a child's development

Many parents mistakenly believe that their children should always share toys with everyone. However, giving up playing together is a natural and necessary stage in the formation of personal boundaries. Victoria Boeva, the founder and co-owner of the Discovery network of bilingual kindergartens and schools, said this in an interview with Izvestia on July 24.

According to the expert, between the ages of two and five, children actively develop an understanding of "their own" and "someone else's." If adults require a child to give away a favorite thing, this will lead to negative consequences.: the child may begin to perceive his desires as insignificant, which in the future will cause resentment and distrust of others.

"Parents should not ignore the child's refusal, but help him look for alternative ways to solve the situation. For example, if he is not ready to give the toy to another kid, you can offer to organize a joint game: play together, use the toy in turn, or offer something in return," said Boeva.

She also recommended discussing the rules of interaction with toys with the child in advance, especially before visiting guests. Choosing things together that can be offered to other children will help a minor feel more confident and realize their rights to their own items.

In addition, Boeva drew attention to the fact that the best way to foster generosity is to demonstrate it by example. Children closely observe the behavior of adults, and when they see that parents are willing to share something important, they adopt this behavior model.

On July 20, Boeva, in an interview with Izvestia, told at what age to give minors phones and how to establish rules for their use. According to her, children should be introduced to mobile devices no earlier than two or three years old, while watching cartoons should be limited to 15 minutes a day. It is also important to set filters and explain which sites are best avoided.
