- The doctors told about the preparation of veterans of the SVO with prosthetic legs for the conquest of Elbrus
Members of a group of veterans of a special military operation (SVO) with prosthetic legs within the framework of the Time of the Strong project were able to conquer Elbrus, despite the fact that they faced various difficulties during the ascent. Their health was monitored by the team doctor throughout the journey. On April 22, doctors told about the nuances of training fighters to conquer the peak.
Difficulties, for example, arose with the prostheses of veterans — they cracked in the cold. During the acclimatization exits, fighter Ruslan Avzalov heard clicks in his foot, the prostheticist of the group had to get a repair kit and fix it on the slope.
"It was decided to install a replacement foot so as not to stop," said Vitaly Degtyarev, a leading prosthetician of the lower legs at Bionics 2.0.
At some point, another veteran, Sergei Uzelman, became ill due to altitude sickness. Alexander Fokin, Deputy Chief Physician for Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine at Sirius Sports Medical Clinic, recommended that he take an aspirin tablet and inform him about his condition every 10 minutes.
A unique program was developed for the veterans of the SVO with prosthetic legs, which they followed during the ascent.
"We made the strongest and coolest project, which showed that now is the time for strong guys. Russia is the strongest country. And our guys are proving this on all fronts, conquering new and new heights, and this is not the last one," said Vladislav Baranov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of My Medical Center Group, Candidate of Medical Sciences.
In addition, the veterans were given new prosthetics, and individual thermoplastics and carbon fiber liners were developed for them. The designs were made as comfortable as possible to avoid chafing and pain.
Nikita Petrov, co—founder of the Bionics 2.0 Prosthetics center, emphasized that in practice it was possible to prove that rehabilitation, medicine and technology in Russia make it possible to solve tasks that seem incredible. Veterans climbed Elbrus to demonstrate that even after such injuries, life does not end.
"We got in, and you can do it, all the fears, limitations and limits are in your head," said Denis Shane—Mitrofanov, a veteran of the Free Military and a participant in the Time of the Strong project.
Earlier that day, one of the veteran members of the group, Artyom Tumak, who was a scout and received a mine—explosion wound followed by amputation of the lower third of the lower leg of his left leg, shared that at the height of Elbrus he felt a sense of joy, pride and felt faith in himself and the team. He stressed that the group was able to do what seemed impossible, and what many do not even want to try to do.
