The doctor spoke about the dangers of sunglasses without a UV filter
Not all sunglasses that a person wears in the summer are good for the eyes. Some of them can lead to blindness, as they often do not protect the eyes from UV exposure. About this on July 22, "Gazeta.Ru" was told by Angelina Kazantseva, an assistant at the Department of Ophthalmology named after Academician A.P. Nesterov at the Institute of Clinical Medicine at Pirogov University.
"It has been scientifically proven that ultraviolet light contributes to damage to the lens and accelerated maturation of cataracts, and also damages the macular region. <...> This can lead to blindness, so wearing glasses with a UV filter is mandatory, especially in sunny weather," Kazantseva shared.
The ophthalmologist noted that sunglasses that can block ultraviolet light protect the eyes from direct and harsh UV rays. Such an accessory, according to the doctor, can be purchased at the optician.
Earlier, on July 9, Anna Solovey, ophthalmologist at the 3Z clinic, reported that sunglasses can be an excellent eye protection against allergic conjunctivitis. In case of eye inflammation, the doctor recommends contacting a specialist who will prescribe the right treatment.
