Modern liberal democracy has demonstrated its own inability to meet the demands of society. This was reported on July 21 by Veja with reference to a statement made by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

"Liberal democracy has proved unable to respond to modern desires and needs. Holding election rituals every four to five years is no longer enough. The political system and parties have lost their reputation," the politician stated.

It is noted that the statement was made at a joint meeting of the President of Brazil with the leaders of Chile, Colombia, Spain and Uruguay.

At the same time, da Silva noted that he had held a discussion on strengthening democratic institutions "in the face of the constant attacks they face."

On November 7, 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin, in his speech at the Valdai Club plenary session, stated that Western liberalism had resulted in extreme intolerance and aggression. The Head of State noted that today democracy is increasingly being interpreted as "minority power" and sacrificed against "some abstract freedom."
