- Doctors performed unique operations for the soldiers of the SVO to remove fragments from their lungs
The doctors performed unique operations for the soldiers of the special military operation SVO. So, the specialists managed to get fragments out of the lungs. This was reported on July 21 by a correspondent of Izvestia.
Such operations are often performed at the N. N. Burdenko Main Military Clinical Hospital. Doctors already have experience in removing fragments. However, during such operations, there is a risk that a foreign body with sharp edges may touch and damage vital organs.
"When removing a foreign body, the risk of damage to a large vessel or lung exists, and this should be avoided as much as possible," Alexander Fokin, head of the thoracic surgery department at the Burdenko Medical Center, told Izvestia correspondent Emil Timashev.
The military man with the call sign Veles was lucky. The fragment that was removed from the lung passed 1 mm past the artery. According to the fighter, he was wounded for the first time. He didn't even think that it could be something heavy. Velez was afraid that his bones were broken.
The difficulty of shrapnel wounds to the lung is that such injuries often provoke complications. Therefore, during the operation, the surgeon needs to minimize the risks. The doctor should take into account all complications, inflammations and pneumothorax.
Earlier, on May 19, Valery Matveev, head of the thoracic surgery department at the Republican Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of Health of the region, told Izvestia that a unique operation was performed in the Republic of Tatarstan to remove a fragment from his heart. It is specified that it lasted about three hours.
