It is probably the first time since 2008 that the United States has placed multiple nuclear bombs in the UK. This was reported on July 21 by the UK Defense Journal, citing sources.

"It is assumed that the weapons were transported from the US Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico to a newly built secure storage facility in the UK," the material says.

It is noted that we are talking about B61-12 free-fall bombs. The US Department of Defense did not comment on this information.

"The reported return of such weapons will mean a significant change in NATO's nuclear strategy in the European theater of operations against the background of deteriorating relations with Russia and an increased emphasis on deterrence," the publication clarifies.

On June 25, the British government announced that the kingdom plans to purchase 12 new F-35A fighter jets capable of carrying nuclear weapons from the United States. The acquired equipment will be used as part of the NATO mission to create dual-use aircraft and strengthen the alliance's military deterrence capabilities.
