Sovremennik Theater is preparing the premiere of the play "The Marriage of Balzaminov" in a new interpretation

In the new theater season, Sovremennik Theater will present the premiere of the play "The Marriage of Balzaminov" based on the play by Alexander Ostrovsky. The director of the production is Sergey Gazarov.

This production is not a repetition of well—known material, but a new reading of it. While remaining a comedy, the play is at the same time a reflection on the inner freedom of man. Behind the light and ironic form lies the story of how fantasies become a support, and the inner world becomes a space where everything is possible.

"This is a story about a second life that every person builds in their head. And Balzaminov's second life was a success. In it, he is a man who does everything well, whom everyone loves and recognizes, where he can do whatever he wants, where he is truly happy," says director Sergey Gazarov.

In the new interpretation, the hero appears not as an infantile crank, but as a Russian Don Quixote — a dreamer, philosopher, and romantic. The production promises to be a kind event, giving the audience a much-needed sense of lightness and positivity today. All this complex multi-level world of the main character will be embodied in the set design of the play, which the production team is currently working on.

The production employs a stellar cast, and the theater will announce the names of the actors later. The comedy is aimed at a wide audience and will be interesting for both adults and teenagers (12+).

The premiere of the play will take place in the new theatrical season. The exact date and start of ticket sales will be announced additionally on the official resources of the theater.
