About 50 liters of rainwater per 1 square meter fell on Moscow. On July 21, Evgeny Tishkovets, a leading specialist at the Phobos weather center, told Izvestia.
"By 09:00 in Moscow, 28 mm, or 33% of the monthly norm, had fallen in a day at the VDNKh reference weather station, 39 mm in Baltschug, and 49 mm, or 58% of the July norm, in Tushin, that is, 50 liters of rainwater per 1 square meter," he said.
According to him, about 19-24 mm of precipitation is expected in the coming days. The meteorologist noted that the heaviest rains took place in the north-west of Moscow. Thus, 71 mm of precipitation fell in Mitino, and precipitation in Zelenograd exceeded the monthly norm, reaching almost 92 mm. Tishkovets emphasized that this is almost a barrel of water weighing 100 liters per 1 square meter.
According to him, the heaviest rain was observed in Kolomna (66 mm) and in New Jerusalem (48 mm). The meteorologist stressed that the monthly precipitation rate was met throughout Moscow on July 21, while the norm was exceeded in the Moscow Region.
Earlier in the day, the Moscow Department of Transport reported rain with thunderstorms and winds of up to 15 m/s in the capital before the end of the day. Drivers were advised to avoid sudden maneuvers, not to be distracted by the phone while driving, and not to park cars under trees and rickety structures.
