The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) has sentenced David Fernandez, a mercenary of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) from Spain, to 14 years in prison in absentia. The relevant information was published on the official website of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation on July 21.

"The court found that in the spring of 2022, Fernandez arrived in Ukraine, where he voluntarily joined the 59th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as a mercenary," the statement said.

It is noted that the man was found guilty under Part 3 of Article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict. According to the agency, Fernandez received over 3 million rubles for his participation in the fighting.

"The court sentenced Fernandez in absentia to 14 years in prison to serve his sentence in a high—security penal colony," the Prosecutor General's Office added.

On June 10, the 2nd Western District Military Court sentenced a Colombian mercenary to 28 years in prison for participating in hostilities on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). He is also accused of illegally crossing the border, smuggling and illegally carrying weapons, and committing terrorist acts.
