On July 21, China expressed its disagreement with the adoption by the European Union (EU) of the 18th package of anti-Russian sanctions. A corresponding statement appeared on the website of the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China on July 21.

"China expresses strong protest and strong dissatisfaction. China has always opposed unilateral sanctions that have no basis in international law and are not authorized by the UN Security Council," the statement said.

It is clarified that China also calls on the EU to stop the illegal practice of including Chinese companies in the sanctions list. The Chinese side promised to take all necessary measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies.

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce added that the EU's actions negatively affect trade and economic relations and financial cooperation between China and the association.

On July 19, the official journal of the Association (OJEU) announced the entry into force of a new package of EU anti-Russian sanctions. At that time, the European organization imposed restrictions against 22 banks from Russia, including T-Bank, Surgutneftegazbank and Bank Saint Petersburg.
