Hackers, using a vulnerability in Microsoft's SharePoint program, carried out cyber attacks on American government agencies, universities, and commercial organizations. This was reported by The Washington Post (WP) on July 20, citing sources.

"We are seeing attempts to hack thousands of SharePoint servers around the world before the appropriate fix is available," said Pete Renals, senior manager of Division 42 at Palo Alto Networks.

According to him, experts have identified dozens of compromised organizations that cover the commercial and public sectors. In addition, according to research by Eye Security from the Netherlands, if hackers have access to servers that are used to connect to Outlook and Teams, they will be able to obtain confidential user data and passwords.

Experts estimate that tens of thousands of such servers are at risk, and the lack of an operational fix from Microsoft is exacerbating the situation, forcing victims around the world to deal with the consequences on their own.

On July 15, the US Department of Justice announced that former US military officer Cameron John Wagenius pleaded guilty to hacking telecommunications company databases. It clarifies that Vagenius colluded with others to defraud at least 10 organizations and used Telegram group chats to transfer stolen data.
